Abandoned Church

In keeping with my theme of apparently loving old, bombed-out buildings (you learn something new about yourself every day!), here's a photostream from a woman who photographs abandoned edifices. She gets up-close and personal, climbing over fences and piles of rubble to get truly fantastic pictures. My favorite collection is that of an abandoned church in Cleveland. In some of the shots, you can see pages from old Bibles and church board meeting notes, signs of an earlier time when this building housed a vibrant community.

One Step Closer

Aw crap you guys, we're getting closer to that Plan C meltdown I wrote about earlier. Nutter's gone so far as to officially draft and submit his doomsday budget to state Congress.

I'm worried about what will happen if this comes to pass (and I don't think it will, but it's still freaky to consider), but despite the seriousness of this proposal, there's part of the Mayor's press release that's just hilarious:

"The Department will also eliminate several contracts and services, including removing bulbs from 4,000 street lights for arterial roadways, and switching 1,000 traffic signals to all red flash, thereby converting each intersection in to an all-way stop."

Turning Philly's city government into traffic-stopping hooligans. Classic.

Full press release here.

Snacks and Shit

I like hip hop as much as the next person. But even I've got to admit that most rap lyrics are ridiculous. These guys know what I'm talking about.
